Introducing VBA in Excel  

This two-day course is designed to introduce and explore the capabilities of visual basic for applications within Excel.  Delegates will learn the basics of structured coding and how to utilise simple forms in application development.

Those attending this course should have a good working knowledge of Excel. Delegates should be comfortable recording Macros, storing the Macros both in the workbook and on the Personal workbook and be able to run the Macros through form controls. Previous experience of programming is not assumed.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise the differences between VB and VBA, and the benefits of using VBA coding.

  • Take recorded code and using simple VBA techniques, edit, copy and build toggling routines.

  • Recognise the object, method and property nature of the Visual Basic language.

  • Navigate the various elements of the Visual Basic Editor.

  • Name, delete and copy code storage units.

  • Create code using decision making and repeating commands.

  • Create Message boxes to give users information.

  • Create Input boxes to retrieve data during the running of code.

  • Utilise variables to temporarily store data during the running of VBA code.

  • Build dialogue boxes to control data input.

  • Utilise the features within VBA that enable the developer to thoroughly test and debug their coding.

  • Build code segments that deal seamlessly with mistakes that a user of coding might make.

  • Utilise the Online help facility and the Object Browser.
